I've been really digging the plasma cannon after I started using it, especially running dual plasma on a gallente commando.
I think there are many possibilities for variant weapons, so lets talk about them!
Using the Allotek Plasma Cannon as the baseline stats to modify off of we have: 1501.5 Direct Damage 313.5 Splash damage (plasma cannon, use splash attack!) 3.5 meter blast radius 0.6 second charge up time clip size 1 max ammo 9 3.5 second reload speed 117 CPU 0 pg
we know that this standard version fires the round automatically when it has become fully charged, it travels fairly quickly and arcs a bit as it travels.
What I think the proto level Breach Plasma Cannon might look like 1590 Direct Damage 230 splash damage 1.75 meter blast radius 1.0 second charge up time clip size 1 max ammo 7 4.0 second reload speed 117 CPU 0 PG
With this variant, you would hold the charge like a forge gun, and it would fire as soon as you release the trigger, the projectile would travel 1.2 times faster than the standard variant but go for 80% of the distance before detonating, lower blast radius to make it less appealing as anti infantry, higher direct damage and holding the charge make it better vs dropship and vs other AV, but at the cost of having a higher charge up time and reload speed.
What I think the proto level Assault Plasma Cannon might look like 920 Direct Damage 345 Splash Damage 4.5 meter blast radius 0.4 second charge up time clip size 1 max ammo 11 2.5 second reload speed 117 CPU 0 PG
This would fire the same as the standard plasma cannon, with the projectile traveling the same speed and have the same arc. The physical projectile itself however would be 1.5-2 times bigger than the standard plasma cannon as far as detecting hits for direct damage. This is a more anti infantry capable variant, but I wanted to keep the splash damage not too high as to steamroll groups of enemies, but getting a direct hit should be easier to help take out the target you're aiming for while being able to shoot and reload faster makes it still quite good at anti vehicle even though the damage is significantly lower.
What I think the proto level Burst Plasma Cannon might look like 1160 Direct Damage 310 Splash Damage 2.5 meter blast radius 1.2 second charge up time, clip size 3(or 4) max ammo 9 (or 12) 3.5 second reload speed 117 CPU 0 PG
This variant would fire the entire clip in one burst, if the clip has 3 shots, then one would go higher than the aim reticle but directly above it, while the other two would go to the lower left and lower right corners of the aim reticle, kind of in a triangle pattern, or if the clip size is 4, then it would be kind of a square pattern where each of the 4 shots goes in one corner. Each shot would follow a similar path but would get further from the others the further they travel, as to have none of the shots end up at the same place. Obviously a great alpha against a vehicle, and good against a group of enemies, if any of the shots hit, I wanted this to have only 3 shots worth of ammo (more of course with ammo skill higher), so that its high risk high reward, and with a longer charge up time and reload speed you are out in the open if you miss hard core.
These are of course my ideas onn some of the variant name types we have had in the game, I haven't come up with a tactical plasma cannon idea yet, or maybe you disagree with my ideas here and think the variant types I used as applied to plasma cannon might be different, or maybe you disagree with some of the stats but like the idea, lets talk about this and see if we can inspire CCP to add these to the game. |

I dunno, the disadvantages on my breach are to make up for the fact that you can hold the charge to aim your shot better, but no movement penalty while holding charge unlike the forge gun.
Faster reload speed and fire time on assault are to make up for lack of direct damage, and to use the splash damage to full advantage against groups. Would the assault do better with a faster charge and less reload time?
How about if the burst only had 2 shots in the clip, and fired similarly to the Kubo plasma cannon?

This variant holds onto the charge like a forge gun until you release the trigger, no movement penalty like a forge gun though, the projectile itself travels 50% faster than standard projectile with a 20% increased maximum range
What I think the proto level Assault Plasma Cannon might look like 920 Direct Damage 405 Splash Damage 4.5 meter blast radius 0.3 second charge up time clip size 1 max ammo 13 1.5 second reload speed 117 CPU 0 PG
The projectile goes the same speed as the original plasma cannon before the recent update. Fast reload time and charge speed are to make up for the lower damage, and large blast radius makes it better at hitting infantry. The size of the projectile itself should be 1.5 to 2 times larger than the standard plasma cannon.

This plasma cannon fires similarly to the Kubo Plasma, where the second shot in the clip fires shortly after the first. I would also have the speed of the shots fired travel the same speed as the original plasma cannon.
What I think the proto level Tactical Plasma Cannon might look like 1560 Direct Damage 60 Splash Damage 1.0 meter blast radius 1.0 second charge up time clip size 1 max ammo 6 3.5 second reload speed 145 CPU 0 PG
Tactical Plasma fires the projectile at twice the speed as the normal Plasma Cannon, and has an increased maximum range by 50%
